Daily Paitings - Two And A Half Lemons
My wife loves to have fresh lemon in her ice tea so there's always half lemons in the house. It seemed like it might be a nice change of pace to paint the inside of some fruit rather then just it's outsides! I set up this still life with her half lemon and added two more for good variety and to composition. It's always a good idea to have odd numbers of things rather then evens. To be honest I wanted to have three and half lemons, but this is all was had on hand.

Daily Painting - Cleaning Up
I was playing around with different still life set ups with these tea cups and some of the plates that go with them and a few other things. I wasn't very happy with any of the compositions. I started to break them down thinking I'd try something else when I stacked all of the tea cups together and thought, hmmm, that might work.

Daily Painting - Radish Bunch
We tried growing some radishes in our garden. It didn't go so well so I had to buy these at the store. I had planned to do a few more paintings of these, but I waited too long to paint them and they started to really loose there freshness. I was lucky to get this one in.

Daily Paintings - Wild Flowers
While hiking in Oklahoma at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge I snapped a few photos of the fields of wildflowers we where walking through. I painted this from one of those photos. I really have no idea what type of flowers these are, but they where almost pure yellow in real life.

Daily Paintings - After Tea
I found these thin little crackers in the house and thought I'd paint them. It's a good thing I finished this painting when I did because I ate almost all the other crackers while working on this. They're really good:)

Daily Painting - Double Parking
One of my favorite parts of the country, Gloucester, Massachusetts. Fresh sea food, ocean views. What's not to like? I haven't been able to get back to Gloucester for a number of years. The last time I was there I must have shot 300 photographs. This is from one of those photos. It's a real challenge to get the correct amount of detail in these smaller paintings. I think this one is just about right for it's size. You tell me!

Daily Painting - Fortune Tea
I guess this would be considered a bit more of a gouache (opaque) painting. I used white mixed in with my colors. It's fun to do from time to time. It's a bit more like painting with oil or acrylic's when I do this. I can play with thicker paint over thin paint and get those juicy white highlights on the tea pot. It's really the only way I could think of to do the reflections in the tea pot. I really had fun playing with those reflections. What a challenge to paint!

Daily Painting - Tea with Lemon
Well, I was not planning on getting the flu 2 days into this, but I guess these things happen. Does anyone ever plan on getting the flu? What sounds better then tea with some fresh lemon when your feeling this way? Hopefully this will shake the last of the cold away and I can get back to painting.

Daily Painting - Looking For Lunch
Another one from our trip to Mustang Island State Park. I had done a couple of larger paintings of the sea gulls and beach. You can those here and here. I thought it might be fun to do a smaller sized version and it sure was. Painting at this size really makes you choose your brush strokes wisely. I hope you like the results!

Welcome to my blog

Winter Bend watercolor on paper
Well, this is it. The first post of what I hope will be many in my blog. I have started my journey of daily painting. For those of you who are not familiar with this, the idea is to produce one painting everyday and post them online. Usually these are smaller paintings that can be finished that day ranging in size from 2.5x3.5 to 4x6. I'll be honest I don't think I can actually produce one painting everyday, day in and day out. I actually hope to produce 4-5 smaller paintings a week. My goal is to paint 200 of these this year. Join me in the adventure and let's see how it goes.
